Because of Mr. Terrupt

“Maybe you just do the best you can, ‘cause you can’t control what happens in the end.” This was a quote said by Mr. Terupt in the children fiction novel, Because of Mr. Terupt. He was a teacher that was loved by mainly all students at Snow Hill School. Mr. Terupt, was that one teacher we’ve always had/remembered where they’ve helped you in a way in school. They start to place your mindset to better things, and start making you understand life lessons that occur in life. It was a great book to visualize and capture what the author, Rob Buyea tried to explain throughout his book. This book is told in seven point of views. They’re told by Peter, Jessica, Luke, Alexia, Jeffrey, Daniella and Anna. All of them don’t really look forward to going to school. They all have their own stories and things to put up with. They all talk about their own stories, but once you read all of their stories, you end up seeing the connection between all of them. Once they start going to school they me

Somebody Up There Hates You

“Everybody dies, dudes and dudettes.” This is a quote that was mentioned by Hollis Seamon in the teen fiction book she wrote, Somebody Up There Hates You. This quote really connects to mostly the whole moral of the story. We all one day are not going to be here, and it just makes you realize that everyday of your life should be lived to the fullest because you never know when it’s going to be the last day for you. Now let me ask you this... If you knew you were on the path of dying really soon, what would you decide to do before it would all be over for you? If you don’t know the answer to this, this is what a fifteen year old boy named Richard “Richie” Casey did. Lived life. Those were the two words Richard lived up to. He’s living in a hospice in upstate New York. This is because he was diagnosed with terminal cancer or Somebody Up There Hates You Sydrome (SUTHY), as he calls it. They told him that his way to passing away was coming soon. As he started being in the hospice for more

Slice of Life

As I was walking with my friends, Osvaldo and Jonathan to gym class today, our principal yelled, “ANTHONY, JONATHAN AND OSVALDO COME HERE!” We walked towards her and she questioned us “Why are you guys still up here, when everybody is at class?” I answered “We all wait for each other, we stick together.” As I said those words, there was one face expression that appeared to be shown. Those were the words, I don’t care written all over it. She then said “If I don’t see you guys in gym class and all dressed up in the next 30 seconds, I’m gonna have to give you guys fouls.” We then all said “Okay” and walked back calmly, until we noticed that she actually started counting down, “29, 28, 27...” And she made us start sprinting to gym class and get ready rapidly.

#OneWord2018

“Resilience is accepting your new reality, even if it’s less good than the one you had before. You can fight it, you can do nothing but scream about what you’ve lost or you can accept that and try to put something together that’s good”. This is the one word I chose for 2018, which is resilience. This is a word that I feel can motivate and help me accomplish most of my goals in this new happy year. It represents and describes everything I need in order to achieve the goals I have. I chose this word because throughout the most rough times I will have this year, I want something that I could just think of to motivate me and make me grow stronger as a person. The three main aspects of my life I would really want to use this word for is my family, sports and school aspects. This year if any negative thing were to occur in my family, I would just try to be strong and try to make my word motivate me to its fullest ability. I’m going to stay resilient through anything I go through this year. I

Mexican Whiteboy

Have you ever felt like someone doesn’t want to accept who you are? A sixteen year old boy named Danny Lopez had the same problem. Danny is Hispanic/American and throughout the story he is trying to find out who he really is. His father from his Mexican side left him and Danny wants to find out where he stands in life. When he’s around white people from his school, they always assume he is a Mexican. But when he’s around his own Mexican family from his dad's side they feel he is white because he can’t speak Spanish. When struggling with his culture, Danny leans to baseball to help him escape all the assumptions on him about his racial and ethnic culture. Throughout his rough times though, he finds out his father's disappearance is more complicating than he thought it already was. This is a young adult fiction novel called Mexican Whiteboy and it is written by Matt De La Peña. He wrote the books, I Will Save You, The Living, The Hunted, etc. In my opinion, everything in this b

“We only reveal what we want other people to know, right? It's like we create fictional characters for the public. And inside we're somebody totally different.” This relates to you doesn’t it? This quote is one of many quotes that are included in the young adult fiction book, I Will Save You, by Matt De La Peña. Matt De La Peña has also written the books Mexican Whiteboy, The Living, The Hunted, along with many other books. The book I’ve recently been reading, I Will Save You has brought so much life back to reading for me. I couldn’t drop that book because the moment I stopped reading from it was the moment a new surprising cliffhanger came along. This is what the book was all about. Kidd Ellison is struck with a hard life to keep up with. His mother loves him and tries to keep him safe from his abusive father that mistakes love for his fists. Kidd becomes post traumatic after an incident that changes who he is. He comes upon meeting a former surfing star, Mr. Red that usual

Chain that Protects Me

My special item is a pendant on a chain that I received on my baptism when I was a very young baby. It’s really important to me. I always wear it around my neck, it is the one thing that just makes me feel safe anywhere I am. I feel protected with it. My aunt and uncle gave it to me in 2005. In a way it’s like my good luck charm. If I don’t have it on, nothing feels right. I always need it on. I feel blessed to always have it on with me.
